TALISMAN
Insignia Records, 2004
Ancient African sacred drums of the Circumcaribbean with vocals-centered tribalglobal post-urban world-funk fusion. (see poster)
The album concept tags this new music as tribalglobal, defining the term as Post-urban World Music, that is, much of the spirit of village music, many of the sounds and means of urban music, with a purpose and message ancient new.
It is music with a Cause: no dancefloor music but impossible not to dance to; not mere entertainment but very entertaining; not to escape from but transcend and transform surrounding reality. In one word: Tribalglobal celebration of life – in this world and the next.
Album Concept: Istvan and Leonor Dely
Produced by JB Eckl
Coproduced by Francisco “Pancho” Tomaselli and Shango Dely
Executive Producer: KC Porter
Recorded at Polyfonia Studios, Bogota; Eckl Park Studios, Los Angeles and WorldBeat recording, Calabasas, USA
TALISMAN is more of a teamwork - the team being Leonor, her family- based band Millero Congo, JB Eckl, KC Porter, and Francisco “Pancho” Tomaselli -, and more cohesive in its focus on the African sacred drumming traditions of the Circumcaribbean, achieving a compact organic synthesis of all The Americas. Colombian Lumbalú, Cuban Santería, Haitian Vodoun, Gwo Ka from the French Antilles, Suriname Bush Negro Winti, and Brazilian Candomblé – all of them sacred music forms of the African Diaspora in the New World - are amplified to global and contemporary dimensions by Bahá’u’lláh’s and the Báb’s Words, especially original melodies by Leonor, Istvan, JB Eckl, Tony Philippe and Linda Leeb, and powerful, very elaborate arrangements that from reggae and world funk origins succeed in creating an unprecedented tribalglobal sound world that eludes all easy categories and segmented audiences.
This album creates new sound worlds and opens up, more than Ámame did, to the general music market. Centered around the sacred African drumming traditions of the Circumcaribbean in a very contemporary fusion with a substantial Anglo input (reggae, world funk), it sounds so overwhelmingly powerful that it will surely transcend the barriers of marketing under labels such as “world music”, “ethnic music” and “religious project” that did hamper Ámame’s broader distribution so far. We want to take Bahá’u’lláh’s Words and Spirit to everybody, through a new music style that we coined “tribalglobal”, which powerfully welds together North and South, Black and White, and, we hope, will “set the hearts of the listeners ablaze and cause their bodies to soar”.

Stunningly good Colombian roots music
Reviewer: globalvillageidiot.net
Stunningly good Colombian roots music that's not afraid to stretch its wings and get a little modern at times, but never losing sight of home. Dely is a glorious singer, and the band offers inventive, seductive arrangements that never go over the top. Kudos too to the producers for such a clear sound. If there's any justice, this will find a wide audience that appreciates a band that has a clear vision of what it's doing, and which is certainly going to go places.
Exuberant, Inspiring and Musically Sophisticated.

Drawing from a deeply spiritual place aided by strong production, Leonor Dely & Millero Congo give upliftment to the soul and deep musical satisfaction. As you go past the moving initial impression, you continue to discover satisfying nuances in the mix of things--fine guitarwork and percussion particularly.

about the Talisman cd...really unusual, and addictive grooves. Kind of a little tour around the world, music-wise. I dug it.”

I am from Colombia but I live now in Canada. There is so much talent in our country and our cultural and musical heritage is so great! We have a lot to offer to the world. The music you hear in this CD is 100% Colombian. Just like the music of Shakira, Carlos Vives and Joe Arroyo. Or the art of Fernando Botero and Alejandro Obregon. Or the literature of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Alvaro Mutis. Thank you Leonor. Your talent, combined with our Colombian music and the Baha'i Writings are the most powerful and sublime sounds... are a channel to happiness and God.
Sublime, inspirational

Let me start by saying that I had already heard of the Dely family. I knew this cd would be a quality purchase, and I was certainly right. From start to finish, this cd provides the listener with a vast landscape of musical influences from around the world, and around your imagination. Their music is altogether tribal, funky, soulful, and sometimes, yes, even ROCKIN...I think just about everyone can find something on this cd to dig into...whether you like poppy stuff, club music, tribal percussion rhythms (of which, they are INCREDIBLE) or simply funky music...Millero Congo, in all it's creations, delivers.-Mac Cassity-PercussionStands.com
